I find myself blogging four times in a row now on the same topic--progressive tendencies in Mexico City's government. The latest is a new law against 'hate crimes', which was passed
39-0 last Wednesday. This type of law has been a hard sell in the U.S, so the unanimous vote here shows a clear division in thinking between the two countries.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Mexico City continues moving in a liberal direction. Yesterday it was the bags, today it's drugs.
Another new law just enacted decriminalizes posession of small amounts of drugs.

IT'S IN THE BAG
Is Mexico City turning into California? First they want right-of-way for pedestrians, and now they want to eliminate plastic bags! A new law enacted this week bans plastic bags in many retail stores in Mexico City. Anyone who has shopped here knows how bag-crazy this country is.
